Country Rat – 1948 Anglia

1948 anglia, big block Chevy, 2-4 barrel Holly carbs, Crane roller cam, Vertex mag
Borg Warner t-10 4 speed trans
9″ Ford rear end.

I bought the car in Feb. of 1964. for $20. After lots of time, hard work, financial help from my brother in law and plenty of parts donated from the salvage yard that I worked in, we went racing. We raced in Lawrence, Ks, Manhatan, Ks, and Kansas City in B gas class. We held the 1/8 mi. record at Lawrence in B gass with a 6.86 sec. at 112 mph. In 1972 we put the car away for 25 years. In 1997, with a fresh 427 motor, new slicks and some safety upgrades we’re back racing again, this time as a nostaligia gasser. Before being retired again, the car ran at tracks in Ks, Ne, Mo, Oh, & In., sneaking thru tech at Indy in 2001 fullfilled a life long dream to race there. 10.50 sec at 130 mph. Same as it ran in the 60’s. The old rat still sneaks out once in a while to spin his tires and shift his gears at nostalgia events. If anyone would like to see a true nostalgia gasser from the 60″s come see the old Country Rat.
